The Mt. Kineo Golf Course shuttle is the primary way to access the island. Below you’ll find schedule details, pricing, boarding information, and helpful guidance for golfers, hikers, and guests.

Departure & Arrival

  • The shuttle departs from the Kineo Public Dock in Rockwood, which is clearly marked and easy to find.

  • The shuttle arrives at the Mt. Kineo Golf Course docks on the island.

Operating Season

The Mt. Kineo Golf Course shuttle operates seven days a week from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend.

Daily Schedule

The Mt. Kineo Golf Course shuttle operates seven days a week during the season, with frequency varying by time of year and demand. On very busy mornings, early departures may run more frequently than scheduled to accommodate demand.

  • Hourly service (Week Days: 9:00AM - 5:45PM | Weekends: 8:00AM - 5:45PM)

  • Service every two hours (Week Days: 9:00AM - 5:45PM | Weekends: 8:00AM - 5:45PM)

Boarding & Capacity

  • Boarding is first come, first served

  • Shuttle capacity is 28 passengers per crossing

  • Limited baggage space is available

  • Additional fees may apply for excess bags or items

  • If a shuttle reaches capacity, it departs and returns promptly. Typical turnaround time is approximately 20 minutes.

Pricing & Payment

  • $15 per person, round-trip

  • Children 15 and under ride free

  • Same price applies for one-way travel

  • Season passes are available for cottage owners

Private Boats & Docking

Visitors may arrive by private boat.. Please note the following:

  • Docking is very limited

  • Maximum boat size: approximately 28 feet

  • Docking is first come, first docked

  • No docking fee

  • No commercial use of docks

  • Using the shuttle is recommended whenever possible.

For Golfers: Planning Your Shuttle

Shuttle scheduling and tee times operate differently and should be planned together.

  • Shuttle capacity is 28 passengers per trip

  • Tee times are scheduled in groups of 4

Planning guidance:

  • A :20 tee time can take the top-of-the-hour shuttle

  • A :10 tee time should plan to arrive on the previous hour’s shuttle

  • An 8:50 AM tee time must take the 8:00 AM shuttle

On Saturdays:

  • 8:00–9:00 AM: peak time for golfers

  • 9:00–10:00 AM: peak time for hikers

Golfers are encouraged to allow extra buffer time, especially on weekends.

Weather & Service Changes

Shuttle service may be delayed or suspended due to strong winds or unsafe rain. Service decisions are made by the local manager with guest and employee safety as the priority.
